Welcome To Athletistry

Athletistry is where athleticism and artistry meet.

It is a training system built to help dancers develop strength, clarity, confidence, and long-term technical excellence.

After more than a decade as a professional ballet dancer performing internationally, and years working in strength, conditioning, and education, Athletistry was created to bridge the gap between traditional ballet training and modern performance science.

What began as online education has grown into a complete development pathway, including in-person classes, international workshops, intensives, and ongoing coaching.

Today, Athletistry supports dancers at every stage, from young beginners to pre-professionals and adults, through:

  • Weekly ballet classes

  • Technique and anatomy workshops

  • Strength and conditioning intensives

  • Performance and mindset training

  • Personalised coaching pathways

The biggest challenge most dancers face is not motivation.

It is knowing how to train properly.

How to build strength without losing artistry.
How to improve technique without injury.
How to practise with purpose.
How to progress without burnout.

Athletistry exists to provide that structure.

Every class and workshop is designed to develop:

  • Strong technical foundations

  • Intelligent movement patterns

  • Physical resilience

  • Artistic confidence

  • Long-term discipline

As dancers grow, their training evolves with them.

Through small group classes, targeted workshops, and personalised guidance, Athletistry helps each dancer understand their body, their technique, and their potential.

This is not about shortcuts.

It is about building a system that works for your body, your goals, and your future.

If you are ready to train with clarity, consistency, and purpose, we invite you to begin your Athletistry journey.

Remember to practise… for many years.

Shane Wuerthner

Athletistry Founder and Head Coach

Shane Wuerthner is a former professional ballet dancer and high-performance coach specialising in long-term dancer development and sustainable technique.

He began his formal training at the Kirov Academy of Ballet, graduating at the top of his class in 2004. He was subsequently offered contracts with major international companies, including Vienna State Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet, and Royal Danish Ballet.

Shane joined the Vienna State Ballet in 2005, progressing from corps de ballet to Soloist before returning to San Francisco Ballet as a Soloist in 2012. In 2014, he joined Queensland Ballet, where he was promoted to Principal Artist in 2015.

Throughout his performing career, Shane danced principal roles in major classical works including Swan Lake, Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Coppélia, La Fille mal gardée, La Sylphide, and The Nutcracker, as well as contemporary repertoire by leading choreographers such as Jiří Kylián, Christopher Wheeldon, Twyla Tharp, Alexei Ratmansky, Natalie Weir, and Jorma Elo.

He has also performed internationally with André Rieu and toured extensively throughout Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

In 2017, Shane retired from professional performance to pursue a career in strength and conditioning. He was recognised as Personal Trainer of the Year within his first year in the industry, reflecting his ability to translate elite athletic principles into practical training systems.

This work led to the creation of Athletistry, an integrated coaching system combining classical technique, biomechanics, strength training, and mindset education. Through Athletistry, Shane delivers weekly classes, international workshops, intensives, and personalised coaching for dancers of all ages.

In 2022, he expanded Athletistry into online education, building a global audience and community of dancers seeking clear, science-informed, and sustainable training methods.

Today, Shane is known for bridging traditional ballet values with modern performance science. His students have gone on to receive international recognition and continue training and performing with leading schools and companies worldwide.

His mission is simple: to help dancers train with clarity, confidence, and purpose, for many years.
